State Representative Tim Barhorst is the Grassroots Conservative Choice for Ohio Speaker
If I Had Won My House Primary I Would Be Voting For Him
I ran for the Ohio House in the 2022 and 2024 primaries. In 2022 I came within 684 votes of defeating incumbent Darrell Kick. In 2024, I was the frontrunner for the nomination until Senate President Matt Huffman handpicked a self funding challenger to me named Mark Hiner.
Mr. Hiner spent $120,000 of his own money and swamped me with the spending. Hiner won and I lost, and I’m not going to re-litigate the primary, but for this fact.
Hiner’s main issue with me was not ideological, but was based upon my past support for former Speaker Larry Householder and current Speaker Jason Stephens. He pledged repeatedly to support a true conservative Republican for the next Speaker.
Tim Barhorst is now that conservative candidate.
Jason Stephens has withdrawn and if I had won my primary I would have joined with grassroots conservatives across the state to support Tim Barhorst. I’ve known Tim since he first ran for the Ohio House in 2018 and I’ve always been impressed by him.
He’s an expert on healthcare and believes in consumer choice and transparency in medical costs. He has an A rating on Medical Freedom issues just like Mark Hiner and I had. Matt Huffman does not.
Tim has a 100% Pro Gun rating like Mark Hiner and I had and we all support the Second Amendment Preservation Act. Matt Huffman does not.
Matt Huffman will be able to serve as Speaker for a whopping 8 years, something no Speaker has done since Vern Riffe. He will also exercise control over the Ohio Senate where he hired the staff and his handpicked successor will serve as President.
This should be an easy vote for someone who ran and won on conservative issues like Mark Hiner did. Will Hiner stand up for the conservative principles that he ran and won on or will he back the establishment candidate that recruited and funded him? Great question and its something you should ask him. Give him a call at (740) 481-1713 or email him at Mark@HinerForOhio.com and ask him for yourself.
